Kathleen Wynne is the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, and the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs.
With a long record of public service, Kathleen is a passionate advocate for the people of Don Valley West. Kathleen is seeking her third election as a Member of Provincial Parliament.
Locally, Kathleen has worked hard to bring additional community resources and funding to benefit her constituents in Don Valley West. These include multi-million dollar expansion projects for local schools, renovated facilities at Sunnybrook Hospital, the Skills for Change employment resource centre in Flemingdon Park, the Leaside Arena Expansion project, preservation of the Donwood institutional land and the Valley Park cricket field project.
Kathleen’s strength lies in her ability to listen and learn from people from all fields -- both inside and outside government and then to take action.
During her time as the Minister of Transportation, Kathleen secured a new transit expansion plan for Toronto including the Eglinton-Scarborough LRT, the largest transit investment in a generation. She has also overseen Ontario’s largest highway investments including the Highway 407 East Extension to Highway 35/115 and the Windsor-Essex Parkway.
As the Minister of Education from 2006 to 2010 she led the government's efforts to introduce full day kindergarten, reduce class sizes in the primary grades, improve student achievement and provide more opportunities for high school students to graduate and reach their full potential.
Before joining the government, Kathleen served as a Trustee on the Toronto District School Board. She holds a Masters degree in Linguistics from the University of Toronto and a Masters degree in Adult Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE).
Kathleen has three children, Chris, Jessie and Maggie, and one granddaughter, Olivia. Kathleen and her partner Jane have lived in North Toronto for more than 25 years.
